About the Artist

Darren Joseph is a Coast Salish member of the Squamish Nation.
Darren grew up in North Vancouver, his ancestral name is Shmoqwilum which he received when he was 17 years old.
Darren has been carving since 2003 and has collaborated and led many totem pole, as well as ocean going canoe projects.
Darren is committed to keeping our Indigenous cultural alive through the arts. Darren continues to create art to help address the huge historical loss of our Indigenous cultural arts, crafts and heritage.
In addition to living our Indigenous cultural way of life, Darren also contributes to the revival of Indigenous culture to showcase Indigenous strength, and wisdom.
